April 7th, 2018 NBA Betting Tips

VinWritten by Vin

(We had some issues and this got delayed. Just posting it now so we can keep track. NBA Playoffs tips will begin soon)

The Houston Rockets have run away with the 2017-2018 NBA season. They have the best team and, unless LeBron James ends up pulling it out, they have the MVP in James Harden. They have created real doubt as to who will win the 2018 NBA championship and that is something that nobody would’ve said before the season.

This felt like another Warriors walk, but the way the Rockets have played with Chris Paul added to the mix combined with the injuries and general malaise of the Warriors has really made this an intriguing season. This will be the year that Harden and Paul really silence some haters and ascend into playoffs gods. At least, we hope so.

The Rockets have long since distanced themselves from the Warriors, but they just continue to win games. They’ve won 13 of their past 14 games and have a chance to really showcase themselves tonight on national TV. This should be a fun game with James Harden going one-on-one with his former teammate Russell Westbrook. That should be a heck of a game.

Houston Rockets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder Betting Tips:

These two teams seem to always play interesting games as five of the past six have been decided by six points or less. The showdown is always a good one between Harden and Westbrook and that’s why it was chosen for national TV.

That said, I did say five of the past six for a reason. The most recent game was a ten point win by the Rockets and that feels to me like the new normal. Despite adding Paul George and Carmelo Anthony in the offseason, it definitely feels like the Thunder have taken a step back this season while the Rockets have taken many steps forward.

This is no longer a close match-up between two evenly matched teams. This is now an uneven match-up between a top seed in the playoffs and a team fighting for their playoff lives and I think the result will bear that out. The Rockets -6.5 is my play here as I think they’ll win this one by 8+. The Rockets are the best team in the league right now, get used to it.

Golden State Warriors vs. New Orleans Pelicans Betting Tips:

I want to believe in the Warriors right now, but they just seem lost without Stephen Curry. They were blown out by 20 against the Pacers of all teams and now draw Anthony Davis and the Pelicans tonight. Davis has given them trouble in the past and the way this team is playing offense is Warriors-esque.

Honestly, I think this line is just too high. The Warriors haven’t been playing the type of basketball that makes them deserving of a seven point spread. They just haven’t put it together and their bench is too thin. I don’t think they’ll win, but I like the Pelicans +7 to keep it close in this one.

Holy frustrating night, Batman!

Denver Nuggets -5 at home, win by 4.
Cleveland Cavaliers -5.5 at home, win by 4.
Warriors -2 at the Pacers, don’t show up.

Seriously, how does a team with Kevin Durant, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson lose by 20 to the Pacers. I mean, good job Pacers and all that, but this is the potential repeat World Champions getting bodied by a 5th seed in the Eastern Conference. Sometimes I don’t understand this game.

Those other two games hurt though. Any 0-3 night does. We had the right sides in two of the three though, but it just wasn’t enough. Tough night, tough night. Let’s make tonight a better one.

Philadelphia 76ers vs. Cleveland Cavaliers Betting Tips:

This game has huge playoff implications. These two teams are in a dead heat for the third seed in the Eastern Conference and the winner of this one could be the one to take that spot. Don’t tell me this isn’t a big game, this is a big game.

The young Sixers will be without Joel Embiid, but that hasn’t seemed to have slowed them down. They are kicking butt all over the floor right now and come into this game on a 12-game winning streak. They are just on fire and Ben Simmons has looked like the next closest thing to LeBron that we’ll get in this league.

Since getting Kevin Love back, the Cavs are also kicking ass. I think there is a real chance that LeBron James stays in Cleveland after this retooling this year and that has motivated him in new ways. He has a real case for the MVP and the Cavs come into this one having won five straight.

I want to pick the Sixers, but I just can’t bring myself to do it. Not without Embiid and Dario Saric listed as questionable. I do, however, feel mighty confident in the over on this one. The Cavs just try to outscore everyone while the Sixers have no problem playing at a fast pace. This should be an awesome game and I love the Over 224 here. Prepare for a war.

Phoenix Suns vs. New Orleans Pelicans Betting Tips:

The Pelicans grabbed a win the other night to hold on to their spot in the playoffs, but the Nuggets and Clippers aren’t going away. They need to win as much as they can if they hope to hold onto this spot.

Luckily for them, they draw the Suns tonight who are gunnin’ for that #1 spot… in the draft. No Devin Booker, no TJ Warren and no real desire to win games. I have a lot of respect for the players on this team who go out and try hard on each night, but this team is in the #1 draft spot for a reason. They suck.

The Pelicans -10.5 know not to look a scheduled gift horse in the mouth and will do whatever is necessary to put away this win. Their playoff lives depend on it and I think they win big here.

A 1-1 last night.

Well, the Raptors aren’t dead yet. We took the Celtics and points against them last night, but the Raptors blew them out by 15. This was one of those true 10-deep wins for the Raptors where nobody does anything amazing, but everyone does something. Time will tell how that fares in the playoffs, but for right now it has seemingly locked up the top seed in the Eastern Conference.

Our other win was the Sixers over the Pistons. For some odd reason, the Pistons were favored in this one despite the fact that they are booty. The Sixers won their 12th in a row and are now in a tie with the Cavaliers for the third seed in the Eastern Conference. Playoff basketball is coming soon and things are getting interesting!

Denver Nuggets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Betting Tips:

This pick combines a few of my favorite things in the NBA: teams playing on the road at Denver, surging teams and struggling teams. The Wolves are the struggling team as they have really dropped in the standings since losing Jimmy Butler and recently got absolutely crushed by the Jazz at home. This is a team that is not in a good spot right now.

The Nuggets are surging. They’ve won three straight and with a win will move into a tie in the win column with the Wolves and Pelicans for the final spots of the playoffs. This is a big game for them and I expect them to come out strong in this one. On top of that, Denver is probably the most difficult court to play at in the NBA thanks to the higher elevation. It’s higher than any other NBA city and we’ve seen quite a few teams struggle with playing there.

Denver -5 for the win and the playoffs.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Washington Wizards Betting Tips:

The Cavs are back and I have no issue taking them tonight against the Wizards at home. Cleveland has really been rocking lately and I think they smell the Sixers on their backs and want to make sure they at least have a top-3 seed. Whether they get it or not is another question, but for tonight the Cavs -5.5 are looking good.

Golden State Warriors vs. Indiana Pacers Betting Tips:

A weird type of revenge game for the Warriors here. The Pacers beat them on their homecourt a week or so ago, but it was one of those games without Draymond Green, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson. They didn’t play, but you can be sure that those guys sat on the bench and watched that game. They saw their team lose and the Pacers puff out their chest like they did something.

Look, the Warriors are way more talented than the Pacers even without Curry and the fact that they have Draymond, Klay and KD for this one would make me like them anyways, but that win by the Pacers gives this a little extra. Nobody likes to watch their team when they can’t do anything about it and I think the Warriors -2 take this one seriously and really take it to the Pacers in this one.

A 1-1 record last night.

The Warriors proved that they are back last night with a huge win over the Kings. They proved that they are strong without Stephen Curry as Kevin Durant had a 27/10/5 game and Klay Thompson chipped in 25. There was some bad news in this one as well though as Patrick McCaw had to be stretchered off the court. Sad news for a breakout player and hopefully he’ll be okay. Terrible to see.

The less said about the Wizards and Hornets game, the better. Washington had a monster 37-23 third quarter and that’s all she wrote for that game.

We’re into April now and that means the playoffs are right around the corner. With so many teams still jockeying for position, this could be a year of some crazy things in the playoffs. I would not be surprised to see some 6 vs 3 or even 7 vs 2 upsets in the playoffs. There is just so much parity in this league right now outside of the top teams, I think there will be some surprises. We honestly can’t wait for the playoffs to get here.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers Betting Tips:

I love the way that the Cavaliers have been playing since Kevin Love returned. Something about him, LeBron James and the new cast of characters just works. Their defense still leaves a lot to be desired, but they can score with anyone in this league and they can flat out blow out teams that can’t keep up.

The Mavericks seem like a team that won’t be able to keep up. This team has played well and kept things close while tanking, but don’t be fooled by that. If the Cavs want to dominate this game, they will. No one has an answer for LeBron, but the Mavs have even less of a one. This should be a domination, Cavs -11.

Utah Jazz vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Betting Tips:

A lot of people are quiet on the Jazz of late, but this is still a team on a 24-5 run right now and playing the best defense in the NBA. They are trying to climb in the standings right now and the Wolves stand in their way. This team has really struggled without Jimmy Butler and their defense has never excited me. I think the Jazz -1 continue their strong run with a win here.

Golden State Warriors vs. Phoenix Suns Betting Tips:

The boys are back in town, part deux!

This team feels strong right now. They grabbed that win last night and I think they rally together behind McCaw after that gruesome injury. Also, the Suns are terrible. Their best player, Devin Booker is listed as doubtful and TJ Warren is out for this one. That’s no NBA stars against a super team. Fair? No. A great place to bet the Warriors -14? Yes.

The Warriors are pretty well locked into the second seed and this game doesn’t mean much to them, but with so many injuries and Curry out they’ll need to learn how to best play together for what could be a tough playoff run. Think of this one as an audition for what they might do.

A frustrating 0-2 record last night.

We had the Thunder -3.5 against one of the worst road teams in the league in the Denver Nuggets. This one looked good, but the Thunder didn’t play defense until the fourth quarter. They were down big, but finished the fourth 35-22 to force overtime. They were just out of gas by that point though and dropped the game in OT.

Also took the T-Wolves -5 against the Mavericks. My reasoning? This was the type of game that the Wolves win and the Mavs have no desire to win. Well, it was the type of game that the Wolves win, just not by enough. They barely snuck this one out, winning by one. save.us.jimmy.butler

I also said to bet the Pelicans, but only if Kevin Love doesn’t play. Well, he played and Cavs covered by 0.5. I felt that line was a bit too close if he was in and I ended up being vindicated there. I’ll take the small victory.

There are a couple of games we like tonight so let’s get right into tonight’s tips and our bounce back.

Charlotte Hornets vs. Washington Wizards Betting Tips:

They aren’t going to the playoffs, but the Charlotte Hornets are playing some of their best basketball of the season right now. They’ve won four of five and look like a great play again tonight against the Wizards. Dwight Howard has been having some huge vintage games and I like the way he matches up on Washington’s big men. Kemba Walker just became the Hornets all-time leading scorer in an emotionally charged moment. There are a lot of good feelings around this team right now.

The Wizards, not so much. 4-6 over their last ten, they’ve run out of steam on the whole sharing the ball thing and just want John Wall back at this point. They are the sixth seed at the moment, but a loss would send them to a tie with the Bucks and Heat for the seven/eight seed. Things are not going great in DC right now and I don’t think they’ll go well tonight either.

Hornets +5 is the play as these teams are trending in opposite directions at the moment.

Golden State Warriors vs. Sacramento Kings Betting Tips:

On Thursday, Graeme proclaimed “the boys are back in town!” in reference to a healthy Draymond Green and Kevin Durant suiting up to play the Bucks. It turns out, he was just a game early on that one as Klay Thompson should play tonight for the Dubs. So, allow me to say…

The boys are back in town! The Warriors will have three of the four superstars in the lineup for tonight’s game against the Kings and the lineup is only -8.5. Yes, please. The Warriors should start rounding into form tonight and the Kings will have no answers for what they can do on the floor. This is the team that is going to have to play in the first round without Stephen Curry so expect them to start jelling as a unit in this one.

I think the Warriors -8.5 are going to absolutely roll tonight so get on this one before the line grows.

A 1-1 record last night.

The Pistons win over the Wizards at home was huge for us last night and felt like a gift. Detroit played hard and grabbed the win 103-92. This team is five games behind the Bucks for the 8th seed with just seven games to play so I don’t think they’ll make the playoffs, but stranger things have happened.

Our loss of the night was the Warriors at home against the Bucks. The Warriors had Kevin Durant and Draymond Green back for this one, but this team is just different and kind of boring without Stephen Curry. They are still great, but the lose a lot of what makes them special without him. Of course, Graeme broke my rule and picked a game involving the Bucks so, of course it lost. Stay away! That team is poison!

Denver Nuggets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder Betting Tips:

The Western Conference playoff race is an absolute dogfight right now. The 3rd through 8th seed are separated by just 1.5 games and the Thunder, once thought to have locked down the four seed, are suddenly in trouble. This team needs to win some games if they hope to lock up home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

They get a gift tonight in the Denver Nuggets. This has been one of the worst teams on the road this season at 13-25 while the Thunder have been very good at home with a 26-12 record. Denver has really begun to slip lately and their playoff chances are very slight. They’ve lost two straight and I think tonight will be three.

Russell Westbrook wants this too bad to let this team beat them at home. This could be the last run of the Paul George/Westbrook pairing as well so we have to hope that they finish strong. Thunder -3.5 is the play.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Betting Tips:

This is a chalk-y time of year and we’re going back to that well with the Wolves -5.5 over the Mavericks. Minnesota is in that same stretch of teams in the West that are fighting for playoff positioning. This team has stumbled down the stretch with Jimmy Butler out with an injury, but this is the exact type of game that this team wins. They beat the teams they should beat and the Mavericks would love to lose right now. This team is lottery bound and is simply vying for position at this point.

New Orleans Pelicans vs. Cleveland Cavaliers Betting Tips:

Consider this one an IF bet.

IF Kevin Love doesn’t play, I love the Pelicans +4 in this one. The Cleveland offense has really been cooking lately thanks to his return, but he is listed as doubtful for this game. If he plays, forget it. I don’t like this line, but if he’s out I think the Pelicans have a real chance to win this game.

Cleveland is soft up front and Anthony Davis is on another level. There is no one in Cleveland that can stop him and without Love, they won’t win a shootout either.

2-0 last night bringing our current undefeated streak to 7-0! NBA Tips dot Net is on fire right now!

I hope you all are following the tips and making some money. Don’t forget to subscribe to get the picks sent to you daily as well. We’ll have full coverage of the NBA playoffs this year as well so make sure you stay connected. We are finishing the year strong.

The Celtics were our first pick and they grabbed a big road win against the Kings. We had mentioned their guard based offense can survive without Kyrie Irving and guess what happened? Their point guard Terry Rozier went off for 33 points to lead his team to an 11 point victory and an easy cover.

Our other pick was the Houston Rockets -13.5. I felt a bit like Nostradamus here as I said they’d be up 20 at the half and they were up 24. James Harden had a triple double of 18/15/10 in just 30 minutes and they held on to win this one by 18.

The new week begins today, but let’s keep the run going. Two games we like today so let’s get right into them.

Denver Nuggets vs. Philadelphia 76ers Betting Tips:

The Nuggets have fell out of the playoffs and seemingly everyone ahead of them is hot right now. They’ll need to go on a run if they hope to make the playoffs and I don’t love their odds. They are playing one of the hottest teams in the league on the road tonight and they have really struggled on the road this season. They are just 13-23 overall and 14-20 against the spread away from Denver and I don’t see that getting much better tonight.

Philly is one of the hottest teams in the league right now. They’ve won six straight and currently hold the fourth seed in the East. With JJ Reddick and Joel Embiid healthy, and Ben Simmons a shoe-in for Rookie of the Year, this team could make the second round of hte playoffs. They are 24-10 at home this year and I expect them to make it 25 here tonight. Philly -5.5 is a great play.

Boston Celtics vs. Phoenix Suns Betting Tips:

Eleven straight losses for the Suns and they still hold just a half game lead on the Grizzlies for the worst record in the league. They’ll have to work hard to keep losing and keep this slot because the Grizzlies are coming for them.

Tonight is a good chance to do just that. Not only are they playing the Celtics, they are likely to be without TJ Warren and Devin Booker who are probably their two best players.

Boston is playing a back-to-back here, but the way they’ve been playing and the team they are playing against doesn’t give me much to worry about. The Celtics execute well and play good defense, two things that the Suns don’t do at all. This shouldn’t even be a game, just a bye for the Celts. I see another big Terry Rozier game here and a big Celtics -9.5 win.
