A 1-1 record last night.

The 76ers absolutely rolled all over the Bulls as the defense of Chicago was about what I expected (terrible) and the stars of Philadelphia really rolled in this one. Ben Simmons had a triple double while Joel Embiid and Dario Saric each had double-doubles. That’s called domination and an easy cover, even with the huge spread.

The LeBron James debut for the Lakers was not without highlights, but I underrated the Blazers in this one. Really, I’ve been underrating all the home teams thus far. The opening night home game is a big deal for most teams and they come ready to play. We won’t have to think about that much beyond this weekend, but it’s definitely something to keep in mind. Especially with LeBron making his HOME debut on Saturday.

A full slate of games on a Friday night so there are plenty of good options tonight. Let’s get into the tips.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Betting Tips:

The Wolves played a really tight game against the Spurs in their first game of the season, but there was definitely a problem with this team. Jimmy Butler was great, but Derrick Rose took more shots than Karl-Anthony Towns as Towns managed just 9 points and 8 rebounds in 22 minutes. Reminder: they just extended him for $190 million and he’s one of the most gifted offensive centers in the league. Something’s got to give with this team and until they figure out what the heck is going on with their roster, I don’t trust them one bit. They have no business being an eight point favorite, in my opinion.

Cleveland is a team that everyone is discounting this season, but they have a pretty solid roster. Kevin Love was so overshadowed by LeBron that people forgot how great he really is. Cedi Osman is a fun prospect and they have plenty of guys who can knock down a three. Last season, the Wolves defense ranked 25th in Defensive Rating and they didn’t show much against the Spurs to show they improved that. I think this will be a closer game than most are expecting. The Cavs lost their first game, but it was to the Raptors who are expected to be one of the East’s best teams and they were playing in Toronto.

Indiana Pacers vs. Milwaukee Bucks Betting Tips:

Last season, these two teams played four times and went under the total three times. That was then, this is now.

The Bucks under Mike Budenholzer will play fast and put up a lot of three pointers. They are going to have some high scoring games and I believe this will be one of them. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton will be hyped by the home crowd and I expect this offense to show up big time here.

Indiana had a great year last year, but they’ve improved their roster quite a bit. Victor Oladipo is great while Myles Turner and Domantas Sabonis have improved their game. Sabonis had a huge 14 point/15 rebound performance against the Grizzlies in their first game. What I love about this team now though is the additions of Tyreke Evans and Doug McDermott. This gives the team more shooting and allows them to play more diverse lineups. I think they’ll be ready to bomb threes with the Bucks today.

Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Los Angeles Clippers Betting Tips:

Here’s the thing: I think Russell Westbrook plays tonight. If he plays, the Thunder are one of the better teams in the West. If he plays he and Paul George will be the two best players on the court tonight. The Thunder opened on the road against the Warriors and played them much tougher than I expected. Dennis Schroeder looked great and this team will be good this year.

The Clippers? They got rocked by Denver. Boban Marjanovic had all the twitter highlights, but that was not a great start to the season and I think this could be a long one for them.

A 2-1 record last night.

The Bucks were very impressive yesterday, but they let the Hornets back into the game and nearly blew it. They were up 20 at one point and the three pointers were flying. It was encouraging to see and I believe that this team will be one of be reckoned with this season. The Hornets just bombed threes as Kemba Walker hit seven of them in the comeback. Still, we had the points and the Bucks own outright. That’s a win/win in my book.

San Antonio played the Wolves down to the wire, but when it came down to the final minutes it was DeMar DeRozan that was clutch and he helped to seal the four point victory. A great win for them to start the season.

The Mavericks went down huge in the first quarter and were never able to recover. Devin Booker had a great game and the Suns rolled. I didn’t fully appreciate just how much this team would miss Harrison Barnes and Dirk Nowitzki. Lesson learned.

Three games today including the regular season debut of LeBron James as a Laker. Looks like it’s going to be another late night of watching basketball for me.

Philadelphia 76ers vs. Chicago Bulls Betting Tips:

The 76ers are the first team to play two games this series and they should be hungry to get back in the win territory. They play the Bulls here at home and enter this game as a huge favorite. I think things should go much better for them here than they did on Tuesday.

Chicago is in the midst of a rebuild and they have some exciting young players. Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn, their offseason addition Jabari Parker, and top draft pick Wendell Carter Jr. will lead this team against the Sixers tonight. The Bulls will be without Lauri Markanen who is probably the best of the bunch. Honestly, I hate this team. I don’t see how they are going to be able to defend anyone this season and the offense feels like it’s going to be too much LaVine.

Even with Markelle Fultz in the starting lineup, we know what we are getting with the Sixers. They have two of the best players in the league in Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid, and the Bulls have no one who can guard them.

I hate to go with lines this big, but I really like the 76ers in this match-up. The Bulls have no defense and the Sixers should be properly motivated to wipe the floor with them.

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Portland Trailblazers Betting Tips:

Did you know that LeBron James is a Laker now? It’s true! He’ll make his debut tonight and I’m just going to come out and say it, I don’t think that he is going to put up a bad performance in his first game for this team. This is THE story of the NBA this year and he knows it.

The Lakers are an exciting team though and not just because of LeBron. Brandon Ingram looks like a future star in this league and I’m expecting a big season from him. I love the fit of Josh Hart and Kyle Kuzma next to LeBron. The bench mob that this team brought in during the offseason raised a lot of eyebrows, but Rajon Rondo is a very valuable piece (remember what he did to the Blazers in the playoffs last year?) and the rest should be solid bench guys.

Last season, the Blazers were swept out of the playoffs as the Pelicans really exposed the guards. I think that same type of thing can happen in this game with the Lakers bigger guards bullying Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum. Rondo can really give them fits and LeBron will try to show off in his first game with this team. I can’t believe they are getting points.

An 0-2 start yesterday.

I am kicking myself for taking the 76ers yesterday. I had my doubts about them early in the season with them trying to fit Markelle Fultz into the starting lineup, but I thought they would lean harder on the big guns in this one. It turned out not to matter and I didn’t give enough credit to the Celtics at home. Lesson learned.

The Warriors won the game and nearly got us the cover, but a rough third quarter did the trick here. This game was never in doubt, but -12 is a lot of points to cover and the Warriors didn’t do it.

I feel much better about today’s games as we have a much fuller slate and there are some games that I was targeting before yesterday that I want to get to.

Milwaukee Bucks vs. Charlotte Hornets Betting Tips:

The Bucks are a team that burned us last year, but a team that I am really excited for this year. Why? A new coach in Mike Budenholzer that is going to transform this offense. Under Jason Kidd and Joe Prunty, the offseason was slow and didn’t take a ton of efficient shots. Under Budenholzer, they will be the peak of modernity with a ton of fast break and three point shooting. They will unlock Giannis Antetokounmpo in ways that could win him the MVP. I’m almost seeing a huge year from Khris Middleton as he’ll be looking to get paid next summer.

The Hornets are a team that has playoff aspirations, but I’m just not seeing it. Barring a huge breakout from Malik Monk, I don’t see how this team has the talent to get it done.

Charlotte is a slight home favorite here, but I think that is the sportsbooks still thinking about last year’s Bucks. This is going to be a top-4 seed in the East and in a few months this game would be -6. Get on it now.

Minnesota Timberwolves vs. San Antonio Spurs Betting Tips:

The Wolves are an absolute mess right now. Jimmy Butler wants out, Tom Thibodeau is losing the team and Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns can’t get along with Butler. This is a team with bad chemistry and great talent. They will beat some teams with that mix, but not this one.

San Antonio is a machine. They are filled with veterans who know their roles and fulfill them. DeMar DeRozan is a perfect fit for this team and he’ll do just fine with LaMarcus Aldridge. I hate to use this analogy here, but the Wolves are playing checkers and the Spurs are playing chess. Take the home team with the history of success over the mess of team with one playoff appearance since Kevin Garnett left.

Bet Spurs -2.5

Phoenix Suns vs. Dallas Mavericks Betting Tips:

I am going to make this last pick really simple: The Suns shouldn’t be favored over anyone. This team won 21 games last season, they fired their GM a week ago, and I don’t see them being much better this season. They have no point guard and Devin Booker is recovering from a hand injury that cost him the preseason. Booker is going to handle some of the point guard duties and that doesn’t seem like the best idea.

The Mavericks have high aspirations and why not? Luka Doncic was the steal of the draft and he’s ready to play right now. He’ll form a potent pick-and-roll with DeAndre Jordan. Doncic and Dennis Smith Jr. will be a very potent backcourt and I think this team can challenge for the 8th seed. They have one of the best coaches in the league and should easily handle a mess of a team like Phoenix.

Welcome back to another season of the NBA! We’re back with NBA Tips every day of the season. I’m Vince and my partner Graeme will be starting next week. We’re two NBA super fans who love betting on the league. We post tips every day and keep our record posted in the sidebar. We bet our own games, but we don’t guarantee winners. We are a resource. These articles should be read as our opinion on the day’s games and we encourage you to do your own research before making picks.

Okay, now that we’ve gotten that out of the way let’s start making some money. We have two big match-ups today including a possible Eastern Conference Finals match-up between the Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers. We’ll also see the defending World Champions (and possible future World Champions), the Golden State Warriors playing the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Boston Celtics vs. Philadelphia 76ers Betting Tips:

These are two teams with bright, bright futures that should be a marquee match-up for years to come. The Sixers burst onto the scene last season as Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons both got healthy and broke out in major ways. It’s truly kind of amazing as the two of them had something like 30 games experience between them and they were one of the best teams in the NBA. They’ll attempt to add a third banana this year as last year’s number one pick, Markelle Fultz will be added to the starting lineup. There could be some growing pains with him, but Embiid and Simmons are really good and should make that transition easier that it is for most rookie point guards.

Boston is a team that everyone is loving to win the East this year. They went to the Eastern Conference Finals last year (defeating the Sixers along the way) without Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward last season, but those two will be back for this one. That said, Hayward isn’t fully back yet and I think their might be some growing pains this season. We saw it a bit in the preseason and there will be a minutes crunch here with so many great players and only 48 minutes in a game.

It feels like this line is predicting what these teams are going to look like in a few months, not what they look like now. If the Celtics become the juggernaut that everyone is predicting then I could see them as this large of a favorite, but Embiid and Simmons will be the two best players on the floor in this game and I’ll be taking the points here.

Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Golden State Warriors Betting Tips:

It is looking like Russell Westbrook won’t be playing this game and that makes this a far easier pick than the game above. The Thunder have been missing Andre Roberson since last January and their defense really suffered once he went down. Without Westbrook and Roberson, this team is severely shorthanded and the Warriors are the best team in this league. I think they’ll be putting on a show for the home fan’s tonight.

(We had some issues and this got delayed. Just posting it now so we can keep track. NBA Playoffs tips will begin soon)

The Houston Rockets have run away with the 2017-2018 NBA season. They have the best team and, unless LeBron James ends up pulling it out, they have the MVP in James Harden. They have created real doubt as to who will win the 2018 NBA championship and that is something that nobody would’ve said before the season.

This felt like another Warriors walk, but the way the Rockets have played with Chris Paul added to the mix combined with the injuries and general malaise of the Warriors has really made this an intriguing season. This will be the year that Harden and Paul really silence some haters and ascend into playoffs gods. At least, we hope so.

The Rockets have long since distanced themselves from the Warriors, but they just continue to win games. They’ve won 13 of their past 14 games and have a chance to really showcase themselves tonight on national TV. This should be a fun game with James Harden going one-on-one with his former teammate Russell Westbrook. That should be a heck of a game.

Houston Rockets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder Betting Tips:

These two teams seem to always play interesting games as five of the past six have been decided by six points or less. The showdown is always a good one between Harden and Westbrook and that’s why it was chosen for national TV.

That said, I did say five of the past six for a reason. The most recent game was a ten point win by the Rockets and that feels to me like the new normal. Despite adding Paul George and Carmelo Anthony in the offseason, it definitely feels like the Thunder have taken a step back this season while the Rockets have taken many steps forward.

This is no longer a close match-up between two evenly matched teams. This is now an uneven match-up between a top seed in the playoffs and a team fighting for their playoff lives and I think the result will bear that out. The Rockets -6.5 is my play here as I think they’ll win this one by 8+. The Rockets are the best team in the league right now, get used to it.

Golden State Warriors vs. New Orleans Pelicans Betting Tips:

I want to believe in the Warriors right now, but they just seem lost without Stephen Curry. They were blown out by 20 against the Pacers of all teams and now draw Anthony Davis and the Pelicans tonight. Davis has given them trouble in the past and the way this team is playing offense is Warriors-esque.

Honestly, I think this line is just too high. The Warriors haven’t been playing the type of basketball that makes them deserving of a seven point spread. They just haven’t put it together and their bench is too thin. I don’t think they’ll win, but I like the Pelicans +7 to keep it close in this one. Logo

Holy frustrating night, Batman!

Denver Nuggets -5 at home, win by 4.
Cleveland Cavaliers -5.5 at home, win by 4.
Warriors -2 at the Pacers, don’t show up.

Seriously, how does a team with Kevin Durant, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson lose by 20 to the Pacers. I mean, good job Pacers and all that, but this is the potential repeat World Champions getting bodied by a 5th seed in the Eastern Conference. Sometimes I don’t understand this game.

Those other two games hurt though. Any 0-3 night does. We had the right sides in two of the three though, but it just wasn’t enough. Tough night, tough night. Let’s make tonight a better one.

Philadelphia 76ers vs. Cleveland Cavaliers Betting Tips:

This game has huge playoff implications. These two teams are in a dead heat for the third seed in the Eastern Conference and the winner of this one could be the one to take that spot. Don’t tell me this isn’t a big game, this is a big game.

The young Sixers will be without Joel Embiid, but that hasn’t seemed to have slowed them down. They are kicking butt all over the floor right now and come into this game on a 12-game winning streak. They are just on fire and Ben Simmons has looked like the next closest thing to LeBron that we’ll get in this league.

Since getting Kevin Love back, the Cavs are also kicking ass. I think there is a real chance that LeBron James stays in Cleveland after this retooling this year and that has motivated him in new ways. He has a real case for the MVP and the Cavs come into this one having won five straight.

I want to pick the Sixers, but I just can’t bring myself to do it. Not without Embiid and Dario Saric listed as questionable. I do, however, feel mighty confident in the over on this one. The Cavs just try to outscore everyone while the Sixers have no problem playing at a fast pace. This should be an awesome game and I love the Over 224 here. Prepare for a war.

Phoenix Suns vs. New Orleans Pelicans Betting Tips:

The Pelicans grabbed a win the other night to hold on to their spot in the playoffs, but the Nuggets and Clippers aren’t going away. They need to win as much as they can if they hope to hold onto this spot.

Luckily for them, they draw the Suns tonight who are gunnin’ for that #1 spot… in the draft. No Devin Booker, no TJ Warren and no real desire to win games. I have a lot of respect for the players on this team who go out and try hard on each night, but this team is in the #1 draft spot for a reason. They suck.

The Pelicans -10.5 know not to look a scheduled gift horse in the mouth and will do whatever is necessary to put away this win. Their playoff lives depend on it and I think they win big here. Logo

A 1-1 last night.

Well, the Raptors aren’t dead yet. We took the Celtics and points against them last night, but the Raptors blew them out by 15. This was one of those true 10-deep wins for the Raptors where nobody does anything amazing, but everyone does something. Time will tell how that fares in the playoffs, but for right now it has seemingly locked up the top seed in the Eastern Conference.

Our other win was the Sixers over the Pistons. For some odd reason, the Pistons were favored in this one despite the fact that they are booty. The Sixers won their 12th in a row and are now in a tie with the Cavaliers for the third seed in the Eastern Conference. Playoff basketball is coming soon and things are getting interesting!

Denver Nuggets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Betting Tips:

This pick combines a few of my favorite things in the NBA: teams playing on the road at Denver, surging teams and struggling teams. The Wolves are the struggling team as they have really dropped in the standings since losing Jimmy Butler and recently got absolutely crushed by the Jazz at home. This is a team that is not in a good spot right now.

The Nuggets are surging. They’ve won three straight and with a win will move into a tie in the win column with the Wolves and Pelicans for the final spots of the playoffs. This is a big game for them and I expect them to come out strong in this one. On top of that, Denver is probably the most difficult court to play at in the NBA thanks to the higher elevation. It’s higher than any other NBA city and we’ve seen quite a few teams struggle with playing there.

Denver -5 for the win and the playoffs.

Get the NBA Tips delivered to your inbox each day for free.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Washington Wizards Betting Tips:

The Cavs are back and I have no issue taking them tonight against the Wizards at home. Cleveland has really been rocking lately and I think they smell the Sixers on their backs and want to make sure they at least have a top-3 seed. Whether they get it or not is another question, but for tonight the Cavs -5.5 are looking good.

Golden State Warriors vs. Indiana Pacers Betting Tips:

A weird type of revenge game for the Warriors here. The Pacers beat them on their homecourt a week or so ago, but it was one of those games without Draymond Green, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson. They didn’t play, but you can be sure that those guys sat on the bench and watched that game. They saw their team lose and the Pacers puff out their chest like they did something.

Look, the Warriors are way more talented than the Pacers even without Curry and the fact that they have Draymond, Klay and KD for this one would make me like them anyways, but that win by the Pacers gives this a little extra. Nobody likes to watch their team when they can’t do anything about it and I think the Warriors -2 take this one seriously and really take it to the Pacers in this one.
