A 1-1 record last night.

Our loss was the Hornets who dropped to the Lakers. Sometimes I wonder if anyone in this league wants to make the playoffs. I know LeBron James played a decent amount of minutes in this game and they have Kyle Kuzma and Rajon Rondo who would be solid contributors to any team, but the Hornets blew this one and it could cost them the playoffs.

We got the easy win with the Nuggets beating the Thunder. This line made no sense when I saw it and I’m glad that it came through. The Thunder could just not keep up in this one as even with Paul George playing. Jamal Murray had 27 points and Nikola Jokic added 23 points and 16 rebounds. The Thunder now sit in the 8th seed in the West by virtue of not having the tiebreaker over San Antonio. Wow.

Portland Trail Blazers vs. Detroit Pistons Betting Tips:

The Blazers have won six straight, they are 9-1 over their past ten games, and they are +6.5 point underdog here. Huh? The Pistons are a much better team at home and the Blazers are on the third game of a four game road trip, but I just don’t get this one.

Detroit has been playing good basketball and Blake Griffin is having a season for the ages that nobody is noticing. That said, I won’t be going against Damian Lillard and company here.

Portland is the better team as the third seed in the West and they are definitely in a “nobody believes in us” type of mode right now with the injuries to Jusuf Nurkic and (to a lesser extent) CJ McCollum. I like what the Pistons are doing, but this still a team that is barely over .500 facing the third seed in the West. Get out of here with all these points.

Orlando Magic vs. Indiana Pacers Betting Tips:

Do you believe in Magic? I know I said in the opening that some teams don’t seem like they want to make the playoffs, but I can’t say that about Orlando. I believe in the Magic.

This team is playing great basketball and have a 16-8 record in the second half of the season. They just had a six-game winning streak snapped and are looking to get back in the win column to improve their chances against the Heat. They are currently 0.5 games back of Miami for that spot and this is a team that definitely knows that and will be playing for that reason.

Indiana is really struggling lately with a 3-7 record of their last ten. The Victor Oladipo injury is starting to catch up to them. They are currently tied with the Celtics in the playoff chase, but have lost the tiebreaker so they are the 5th seed. They have no danger of falling to the sixth so I’m not sure how much this game matters in the long run.

This game means a lot to Orlando though and I expect them to show up and show out.

An 0-1 record last night.

We took the Kings last night against that beat up Pelicans team and it seemed like a strong play. The Kings had a 7-1 record against the spread as a road favorite on the season and the Pelicans are just so beat up right now. Instead, these teams played a very close game and the Pelicans, led by Julius Randle‘s 34 points, pulled out the win.

We are still a couple of weeks away from the playoffs, but most of the teams in this league feel like they are ready to start now. There is a big game tonight between the Pacers and Celtics who are battling for the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference, but neither team is exactly coming into this one on a playoff push. That is the most like 4/5 playoff match-up so that should be a nice playoff preview. That said, I’m not touching that game as both teams have looked bad lately.

I do have a couple of picks that I like today that are below. Just wanted to take a second to mention too that baseball season is now here and I will be posting tips for the season every day over at BetMLB.org. Last season I debuted my Bet MLB System midway through the year and really had some success to finish out the season. We are 3-1 so far this year with today’s tips going up once I’m finished here.

Denver Nuggets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder Betting Tips:

Paul George is listed as questionable here and the Thunder I really struggling in this second half. They were once looked at as the lock for a top-3 seed and now they are tumbling towards the eighth seed. A first round match-up with the Warriors would be a very bad thing for this team. As it sits now they would match-up with Denver in the first round who they get tonight.

Denver is coming off a bad loss to the Rockets and I expect them to show up here. A lot of people around the league think this team is vulnerable in the first round so I expect them to show up here and erase those doubts. They have far more depth and I think they can stop Russell Westbrook in this game. Without George, that’s about all they have and I think the Nuggets have a good chance of winning this one outright.

Charlotte Hornets vs. Los Angeles Lakers Betting Tips:

The Hornets are making a strong playoff push right now and they’ve won their last four games. They are just a game and a half back of the Heat for the 8th seed and the best way for them to get there is by winning.

Los Angeles is just another team right now. They’ve shut down Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball for the season and LeBron James is on a minutes restriction. They have no real need to win and only improve their chances at Anthony Davis by getting a better draft pick. They have no desire to win while the Hornets do. Furthermore, I could see Kemba Walker treating this game as an audition for Magic Johnson and the Lakers brass. Need another star to play alongside LeBron? “I’m right here,” I can see Walker saying as he drops 40 on this hapless Laker team.

A 1-1 record last night.

The NBA is weird, man. The Nuggets had a chance to hold on their spot atop the West and hold off the Warriors. We thought they were a good bet to do so as they have been the better team than Indiana this season and the game had some real meaning to them. Nope, they barely showed up. They never scored more than 23 points in any quarter and lost 124-88. This league really makes no sense sometimes.

Luckily, we had a team like the Rockets last night as well and they took care of business like we thought they would. This was a nice clean win for them as James Harden only needed 28 points to grab the win. Chris Paul finished with 10 points and 13 assists in this one.

Going for teams that need wins for playoff positioning has not really done well for us this week and I can’t really explain why. I think teams sometimes forget just how important home court advantage is in this league. Home teams win in the playoffs, just look at the Celtics last year who rode their depleted roster to the Eastern Conference Finals in large part thanks to that home court advantage.

There is a stupid buzz going on right now about the Bucks potentially losing in the first round. It’s dumb and reactive to a few bad games (they just destroyed the Heat who are their potential first round opponent), but home teams in the top seed have only lost the series five times in history.

A short slate today with just one game that we’re looking at.

Philadelphia 76ers vs. Orlando Magic Betting Tips:

Philly just had a six game winning streak snapped by the Atlanta Hawks of all teams and will be looking to get back to their winning ways here. While Orlando is holding on to their slim playoff hopes. They are a game behind the Heat right now in the playoffs and a win would do a lot for their playoff hopes.

The thing is, I don’t think that’s going to come. Philadelphia is absolutely stacked as a roster and while anything can happen in this league, the Sixers should not lose to this team if they are playing well.

Orlando is coming in hot as they are 5-2 over their past seven. This is more of a scheduling thing than anything when you look at who they’ve played. Dallas, Memphis twice, Washington, Cleveland, Atlanta, and New Orleans. Not a playoff team in the bunch and not really a team that benefits from winning games in there either. This is the Magic’s first real challenge since they beat the 76ers back on March 5th.

I think that loss plus the insane talent differetial will drive the Sixers here. Nikola Vucevic might match up well with Joel Embiid, but what about Ben Simmons and Jimmy Butler and Tobias Harris? I don’t think the Magic have enough tricks up their sleeve to stop this team.

An 0-1 record last night.

Sometimes you just have to laugh. Yesterday’s loss was so painful that I just had to laugh. This was one of the worst losses of the season. There was a little over eight minutes to play in this game and the Celtics were up by 18 points to a team that is out of playoff contention and has one really good player. The Hornets then went on a 30-5 run to win the game handily. Kemba Walker scored 18 points in the quarter and the defense on him has to be called in to question, but it’s still an amazing performance. Kyrie Irving was very vocal after the game and things seem to be once again going wrong for this team.

That one really sucked and I’m still in shock it happened just writing about it. This is a crazy league, but I’ve been on the wrong side of that far too many times this season. Once is more than enough. The best thing to do is keep the course.

Moving on, there are a couple of games I’m liking tonight. Let’s take a look.

Denver Nuggets vs. Indiana Pacers Betting Tips:

As of this writing, the Nuggets are the top seed in the Western Conference. They have just a 0.5 game lead over the Warriors for that spot and I believe they truly want to hold onto it. This has been one of the most consistent teams all season and they draw a tough road match-up tonight.

The Pacers went on a nice run after losing Victor Oladipo, but a lot of that was schedule based. The schedule has gotten much more difficult of late and the team has struggled, losing four straight games. This might be one of the toughest match-ups of them all and I don’t love their chances here.

With the Nuggets just 0.5 games up and the Warriors in action today, they need to win to hold on to their positioning. I think they know that and I think they come out strong here and grab the much needed road win.

Houston Rockets vs. New Orleans Pelicans Betting Tips:

This Pelicans team is a really sad story. The whole Anthony Davis drama and the injury to Jrue Holiday have really derailed their season and the future looks anything than bright right now. There only real hopes are for a high draft pick and a solid return on the Davis trade, and even that doesn’t guarantee anything.

The Rockets are a title contender though. They had the rough start and some really tough times with injuries, but even with the Nuggets flying high most expect the Rockets to meet them in the Western Conference Finals. A big part of that is James Harden and the health of Chris Paul, but you can’t underestimate the coaching here. Mike D’Antoni has done a great job with this team and even with threes/dunks taking over the NBA, the Rockets still do it better than anyone. I don’t really have a lot of doubts about them tonight.

An 0-1 record with a push last night.

That push was something. The Spurs and Rockets were tied heading into the fourth quarter and we had to feel mostly positive about this one coming through for us. James Harden had other ideas though. The guy finished with 61 points and carried his team to the win over the Spurs. He had 27 points in the first quarter, that’s just crazy. Sometimes a team just says “let him beat us, we’ll take our chances”, but Harden is not the guy to do that with.

The Heat were our loss and they absolutely laid down and died in this one. It was 32-33 at the end of one quarter, but then the Bucks pulled away and locked them down. The Heat only managed 36 points in the second half. I should’ve known better than to be down on the Bucks. The best teams are the best teams for a reason, even when the injury bug isn’t going their way.

Tonight is a weird slate as there a lot of game I “like, but”. I like the Blazers over the Pistons, but C.J. McCollum isn’t playing. I like the Grizzlies, but no Mike Conley. I like the Heat over the Wizards, but this is the Heat’s third game in four and second of a back-to-back. I like the Warriors, but the line is huge and no Stephen Curry. Also, the Warriors have been maddening as a favorite this year. Just not a lot here that I am loving tonight.

Well, except this one. I do like this one.

Boston Celtics vs. Charlotte Hornets Betting Tips:

The Hornets just aren’t that good. They are 14-19 against the spread and 9-25 (!) as an underdog this season. Charlotte has really stumbled in this second half of the season with a 8-13 record which has pretty much killed their slim playoff hopes. This team is still playing, but it would be best for them to lose at this point to improve their draft odds. This team needs all the help it can get right now.

The Celtics have dropped their last two, but overall they have been playing much better of late. Those were tough games against Denver and Philadelphia and no one can fault them for losing them. I’ve never used this stat before, but it really jumped off the page to me.

After Failing To Cover 3 Of Their Last 4 Against The Spread: 14-6
After Failing To Cover 4 Or 5 Of Their Last 6 Against The Spread: 12-6

Sure. That sounds about right. The Celtics need this win and the Hornets really don’t. Kyrie Irving should be motivated to put up a good game as he goes against Kemba Walker here. That match-up is pretty close to even, but the roster of the rosters aren’t even close. Boston is fighting with the Pacers for home court in the first round and I believe they really want it. Boston is one of the best home court advantages in the league and that can be the difference between moving on and not. Boston wins tonight.

A 1-0 record last night.

We took the under on the Nuggets and Wizards game and, while they gave us a little bit of a scare at the end with teases of overtime, this one came in easy. The Nuggets didn’t have to flex too much of their muscles in this one as their leading scorer had just 15 points. Here’s the thing though, four players tied for that honor and eight players managed double figures scoring. As good as a team effort as you’ll see in this league.

The Nuggets are back in action tonight against the Knicks. There is a big spread on this one and I’m probably staying away, but I fully expect them to win this one and continue to put the heat on the Warriors for the top seed in the West. They are just 0.5 games back so a win would put them into a virtual tie for that spot with the Warriors off tonight. Very interesting.

San Antonio Spurs vs. Houston Rockets Betting Tips:

The Spurs just lost for their first time in nine games, but the way they have been playing late is very impressive. It was always going to take awhile for this team to click with a ton of roster turnover, but we are starting to see it and the young players are starting to believe. They play like no other team in this league and their defense has really started to come around, ranking 9th in the league in Defensive Rating over the past fifteen games.

Of course, Houston is no slouch. James Harden has been doing some amazing things and a healthy Chris Paul is making a ton of difference for this team. They disappointed the other day against Memphis, but even that game went to overtime and saw Harden with over 50 points.

This game is going to have a playoff level atmosphere as the standings in the West are just so tight right now and I just can’t see the Spurs rolling over for this one. I’m expecting this game to be tight and I could see the Spurs winning. Grab the points.

Miami Heat vs. Milwaukee Bucks Betting Tips:

The team that broke that streak of the Spurs was the Miami Heat who are 8-2 over their past ten games. They have really been putting together a good run and it looks like they will be able to hold off the Magic to get that final playoff spot in the East.

Milwaukee is the best team in the league, but the injury bug has really hurt them of late and is putting a damper on their playoff hopes. Malcolm Brogdon went down and won’t be back until at least the second round which is a huge blow. They also just lost Nikola Mirotic for a spell, and Giannis Antetokounmpo has been nursing an injury as well. This is the worst spell of the season for this team and right now does not seem like the time to be laying big points with them. Especially against a hot team.

A 1-0 record last night.

There was a time when we’d see no Joel Embiid for the 76ers and immediately skip that game. With all of the moves they’ve made, adding Tobias Harris and Jimmy Butler mainly, that is no longer the case. We went with them against the Hornets last night and it paid off. This one ended up being closer than we’d like, but they finished with a strong 33-25 fourth quarter to win and cover. A true team effort with Butler, Ben Simmons, Harris, and J.J. Reddick all scoring over 22 points in this game.

The season is really getting down to the nitty gritty and for a team like the Wizards, they are running out of time to make up ground. This team has slim playoff hopes and the only thing they can do at this point is win.

Then you have a team like Oklahoma City who has been skidding while the Spurs have been sizzling. They’ve dropped down to sixth in the Western Conference standings and would draw the Rockets in the first round. They are just 0.5 games ahead of the Clippers and Jazz for the 7th and 8th seed. That is not where they want to be and they need to get back on track. Rest on the way to the playoffs is not an option for them.

We have a couple tips tonight. Let’s get right into them.

Washington Wizards vs. Chicago Bulls Betting Tips:

The Wizards take their slim playoff hopes to Chicago where they draw a nice match-up. Zach LaVine is listed as questionable for the Bulls here and that is their leading scorer off the board. While Otto Porter Jr. is listed as doubtful. The last time these two teams there was definitely some revenge in the air as Porter was traded from the Wizards for Jabari Parker and Bobby Portis. All those players went off in that one and I can see the former-Bulls bringing it here.

This is winning time for the Wizards. They can beat this team. They have the best player on the court with Bradley Beal and they might have three of the best five with LaVine and Porter out. Neither of these teams are going to play a ton of defense and without those players, I see no reason why Washington can’t win this one easily.

Bet Wizards -2

Houston Rockets vs. Memphis Grizzlies Betting Tips:

I am really liking the Rockets of late and I think they are headed back to at least the Western Conference Finals this season. Looking at this game I saw something with them that I don’t think I’ve seen all season: no names on the injury report. That’s insane. This team has had the worst injury luck and now they’re healthy and ready to go. They are pretty well locked in at the third seed, but nothing is for certain and they could use a few more wins to hold their spot. They are 9-1 over their past ten games and I can see them winning easily here.

Memphis’ injury list is packed. No Omri Casspi, no Jaren Jackson Jr., no Avery Bradley, and no Kyle Anderson. This is a team that did not have a ton of depth this season and that depth is just depleted thanks to injury. Mike Conley is good, but this team is not winning this game. James Harden and Chris Paul are going to run wild.

Bet Rockets -4.5
