A 2-0 record last night.
The Pacers and Celtics game came down to the final seconds and it looked like it was going to be very close. A missed shot by the Pacers and we might have seen some free throws and a loss. Victor Oladipo would not let that happen though as he scored his team’s final five points to deliver the cover and the win.
Denver and Utah was close until it wasn’t as the Nuggets finished with a 35-15 fourth quarter. This is the kind of thing that happens in these schedule alert games. They just run out of gas light. Nikola Jokic played the role of facilitator in this one with 7 points, 10 rebounds and 16 assists.
Let’s end the weekend strong here with our picks today.
New York Knicks vs. Washington Wizards Betting Tips:
This line makes no sense. The Wizards have been blown off the court all season and their chemistry is a mess. They got booed on their home court on Friday and now I am supposed to buy them as a -7 favorite? No. The Wizards are 26th in Offensive Rating and 29th in Defensive Rating.
The Knicks are definitely in rebuild mode, but David Fizdale has them playing hard every night. They are 3-6, but could easily be 5-4 as two games came down to a single basket. They’ve had a ton of injuries, but Tim Hardaway Jr. is really picking up the slack. I know the Wizards are desperate and if this line was like -3 or -4, I wouldn’t blink an eye, but they’ve done nothing to deserve a -7 and I think their play will show that once again tonight.
Orlando Magic vs. San Antonio Spurs Betting Tips:
The Spurs started the season with a shaky defense, but they have really fixed that up as of late and should have it looking even better in the stats after today’s game. Orlando has lost four straight with the closest game being by 8 points. They are one of the worst shooting teams in the league as they are shooting just 30% from three and 41% overall.
San Antonio is always solid at home, DeMar DeRozan has been fantastic for them, and I see no reason this line isn’t in double digits. I expect them to really execute well and dominate the Magic today.

Memphis Grizzlies vs. Phoenix Suns Betting Tips:
I recently called Memphis the forgotten team of the NBA and this game really shows it for me. Memphis has won three straight by ten or more, but are still just a -3.5 favorite against one of the worst teams in the NBA. I don’t get it. Mike Conley and Marc Gasol are healthy again and the Grizzlies are good.
Phoenix won on opening night, but has since dropped seven straight and the closest margin was seven points. This defense just bleeds points as their 114.6 Defense Rating is 28th in the NBA. The offense hasn’t been making up for it either as they rank 29th in Offensive Rating. The Suns are bad.
Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Portland Trailblazers Betting Tips:
By now, we all know the drama surrounding the Wolves. It’s not great. Trade Jimmy Butler already. That said, I’m not even looking at that here. What I’m looking at is the Wolves 0-4 record (1-3 against the spread) on the road. I’m looking at their road Defensive Efficiency of a terrible 118.8. This is not a good road team.
Portland is typically a good home team and they are in the midst of a long home stand. They are really heating up as late, winning three of their past four with all wins by 10+.
